Fractals in Flight (Apophysis 2.0)

This is another Creative Geometry assignment and my first attempt at a finished image from the program Apophysis 2.0, using fractals. Very cool stuff, but a bit hard to learn the program. I wanted to create the idea of a flying creature without specific details... more like the "feeling of".

I will be moving to Orlando after graduation! I'm so excited! I've missed living there and am looking forward to looking into some graduate programs in Illustration. I don't know if that's the path I want to take, but we'll see. There's so much left to do before graduation and then moving as well. Wish me luck!

Snail Warrior (Corel Painter)

Here is my armored war snail character design, completed for my Creative Geometry class. His shell is a perfect Fibonacci golden spiral ratio. I wish I'd had more time for his headdress, but for now he'll have to make do with his headphone-type leash thing. I'm particularly happy with the slime trail... :-)

I am designing 6 tarot cards for my thesis project: The Lovers, Death, The High Priestess, The Magician, Wheel of Fortune, and The Sun. It's a pretty daunting project and I'm trying a new, less realistic style for the cards, but I'm happy with the way it is coming so far. Wish me luck!

Nephew's Nursery (Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator)

My brother and sister-in-law asked me to create the artwork for my nephew's nursery. I was honored and am so happy they love the pieces as much as I do! I am so looking forward to my nephew being born - especially since Steve and Katie have refused to tell us the name they have chosen until the birth!

2008 Senior Poster Self-Portrait (Corel Painter)

Here is my self-portrait for our senior poster that will be produced in the spring for our 2008 graduation! I am looking forward to seeing the final poster design and my work in print!

I can't believe graduation is this close! It seems like just yesterday we were all sitting in our first classes, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. I have learned so much these last 2 1/2 years... and looking back at my work, I feel I have come so far. I'll miss Ringling and all the friends I've made, but I'm also looking forward to what is to come in my journey as an artist.

Ruins of Atlantis (Adobe Photoshop)

I love the legend of Atlantis. I love to swim and have always been a fan of the ocean. In this illustration, I wanted to catch the beautiful serenity of the deep sea and the massive wonder of the lost city in a fairly minimal way. There are so many pieces that have large amounts of the ruins in them and I wanted to catch a look at the first horizon, before the viewer would see the rest of the city - a taste of the treasures to come, with the mermaid as an homage to the legend that the people of Atlantis adapted to the sea.

Brian's Monkeys (Acrylic)

My first commissioned piece! My friend Brian asked me to create a few cartoon monkeys for his website and I happily obliged. Being in Florida, I must say I'm particularly fond of the Surfer Yeti and his Corona with lime. ;-)

"Frog Prince" (Adobe Photoshop)

I love frogs - and the fairy tale of the princess and the frog is a favorite of mine! So this opportunity to make an illustration for the story was a dream come true! :-)

WIP - 5 Piece Sequential for IL II (Adobe Photoshop)

A look at my current assignment, a sequential piece for Illustration II. I think it is looking good, but still needs a lot of work to be done.

Navy Clock Still-Life, Digital (Corel Painter)

My first shot at working in Corel Painter - a study of my grandfather's honorary wooden US Navy clock. I love the results, and how quickly you can learn and use the program!

These two pieces are from my Illustration II class. We read a poem and a short story and created illustrations for both.

"Fat - Poem" (acrylic on board)

"Here We Are In Paradise - Short Story" (pastel on paper)

Figure Drawings

The work below are sketches from my Figure Drawing class. All work is charcoal on newsprint. I took the photos fairly quickly with my dad's digital camera, so forgive the bad flash washout.

These poses range in time from 20 minutes to 2 hours (most are colored pencil on charcoal paper):

Still-Life Pastels from IL Media

Here is the first work I have ever done in pastel. I am so thrilled by the way they have turned out! It was so easy to work with and I really felt confident while the project was in full swing. I can't wait to use them more. I got the best critique in the class, and was selected for a spot in the next student show!

Enjoy!
